Light Peak: Connecting at the Speed of Light
To dramatically increase data speed like video and music to a PC and reduce a computer’s cable clutter, Light Peak, an Intel-led optical cable I/O technology project, is being developed to run starting at 10Gbs and support multiple I/O protocols. Light Peak was demonstrated in Intel CEO Paul Otellini’s CES keynote yesterday, showcasing a 3D video over a 30 meter optical cable using an add-card. Seagate showcased at CES 2010 plans to collaborate with content and technology providers, including YouTube, vTuner, and Mediafly to deliver access to more user-generated and licensed Internet content directly on the FreeAgent Theater+ HD media player.
