Doug Fisher, VP of Intel’s Software and Services Group, highlighted two technology demonstrations at VMworld. The first gave attendees a look at the Client Virtualization Platform for VMware View, developed on Intel® vPro™ technology powered by our Core processors. This gives enterprise IT professionals a central management system without compromising performance or mobility. The second displayed the capabilities of the Intel® Xeon® Nehalem processor family, which reduces limitations in virtualizing large enterprise applications. The collaboration is bolstered by an agreement to make VMware vSphere 4 available to Intel’s small- and medium-sized business channel to accelerate virtualization adoption. Furthermore, BlueLock and hosting.com announced Intel Xeon architecture-based vCloud express services.

Last year, Intel and Microsoft funded the establishment of a Universal Parallel Computing Research Center (UPCRC) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with the goal of bringing parallel computing applications to the mainstream. At Research@Intel Day 2009, researchers demonstrated an application that the UPCRC is working on to parallelize attendees to participate in a tele-immersive 3D environment. Participants in two separate spaces engage and interact in a 3D virtual environment to complete tasks or play games such as Tele-Immersive Saber Fencing or Tele-Immersive Jump Rope. For more information, see video from Research@Intel Day 2009.
